Memory 35
Significant Neutral: (K) Meeting a New Echo
THIS FUN TIME.
Short Summary
Puma in his formal military/fancy butlter cream outfit appears on a ship where a voice speaks to him. It's the Galactic Class HV-1066, designation: Anesidora. There is a red headed woman on board. Her name is Iota and she's an AI, and acting captain. Puma has some Obvious Tension at this scenario. For those observant, the body sure is breathing to boot.
She notices he has neural implants and asks him about it, about why he doesn't have an AI partner, Puma just goes 'it's complicated' and tries to evade the situation. They talk more about how dubious an AI in a human is and Iota asks if he finds her alarming, at which point he grabs her wrist to feel for a pulse, and she confirms she has a human body.
Puma tries to NOPE ON OUT. He wants to leave and Iota says he can't. He's her 'first.' First interaction, first game, and she can't let him leave without using more energy than what she has to give. Puma wants none of this, but he also seems to resign himself.
He asks for the woman's name. Iota does not remember. Puma demands to know why he was chosen out of everyone in 'Kyriakos.' It was bad luck, he was just closest.
Puma agrees to play the games that will help Iota not disappear, on the condition Iota at least try to remember the woman's name. Even though it's hard. Iota is confused on past tense in regards to the woman, but Puma doesn't think it should be hard to contact her.
As it was, he says he's one of two people in Kyriakos who thinks Iota's story may be a tragedy over malice, but he doesn't trust her at all right now.
Iota begins the calibration games and agrees to Puma's condition. She says Echoes don't regain lost data. Puma thinks there's been enough going haywire in the magic system that it's a possibility, she just has to try. She also wants to know more about his experience with AI and he agrees.
They talk about games. Puma says it'd be pointlessly cruel that a game over leads to memory loss in Kyriakos of all places. Puma explains once someone is pointlessly cruel, that's all they will be in people's eyes, and Iota won't get anything knew from people. It's a warning.
Bit of a manipulation.
But mostly Puma hates pointless cruelty, AI's being shafted because no one will help them, and he doesn't want to hate her for being naive. Iota says he's interesting.
They go back to games. Puma selects to play not!Portal. He plays for a while until Iota just vanishes for a bit which is Concerning. Puma calls for her and eventually she appears as a tiny hologram.
She's running a game. One of his teammates apparently fell out of the hologram. Iota says she's safe, but Puma isn't so easily reassured. Still, she seems to think she's kept them safe and tries to be comforting when she notices Puma's heart rate is up. So. She tried.
Puma starts playing again and then iota is gone a REAL long time again and Puma calls for her and she's so HAPPY. Apparently Epsilon has told her things. Puma is less than pleased. Bright side, Epsilon does not want his body, even if his situation isn't the best.
Iota asks if history will repeat itself if Epsilon tries to have another host. Puma shuts down HARD. Iota vanishes and there's more puzzles and they're getting harder. Then Puma starts hitting load screens where he's in a black void.
He gets deadly efficient after long load times, no hesitation in dangerous actions. Then there's an easier room suddenly. Then a glitching room which gets a panicked response.
Iota noticed Puma doesn't like loading screens and asks if it's cruelty to put him through it despite the increase in his ability. Puma explains he's a soldier, he's trained to be better when things are terrible, but it's not healthy or good for most people. He's a good soldier, he's good at compartmentalization. He's also not mentally healthy.
Iota learns to deliberately exploit an issue of a person would be a cruelty and promises no more load screens. Also his teammate is safe.
More puzzles, just loading bars instead of load zones, he does a midboss and a boss battle with lasers. Also he's been in here days. It's 163rd day of Kyraikos' inception.
Iota asks if she can keep Puma.
Puma squeak shrieks at her no. Because RvB men are good at high pitched. Iota is amused.
Iota offers him a reward though, since he'll go.
He asks for a cat and video games. Because of course. Also Iota advises he rest afterwards. He's been playing days and while he had food and water, he did NOT sleep much AT ALL.
He heads to the teleporters he arrived by and sees a box with games and meowing. He picks up the box, puts the cat in his coat, and leaves.]
