Meta captured Tex in the AI capture unit...and his addiction took hold. [His tone is...wistful there. Sad.] I had to keep him from Epsilon, who Doc was helping.
It wasn't going so well, but that's when the rest of the guys came crashing in.
On an airship.
Knocked Meta out for a bit. Which is when I actually had a conversation with Epsilon and he was trying to put all the things wrong the Director did. Realized all the things he put Tex through that he shouldn't have.
Meta wanted Epsilon, and I knew that was a bad idea all around, let alone my complicated feelings for Epsilon.
But by that point, I had been blown up several times, run over, hadn't slept for days, had to fight Tex, and this was round two with the Meta who I had never beaten in a straight up fight.
He wasn't holding back anymore. [Another pang there.]
I got hit with another grenade and was on the ground, which is when the guys had scrambled out to take part in the fight. I couldn't even stand up anymore, and they...well...
They aren't exactly normal soldiers.
They're not even substandard soldiers, to be honest.
But Sarge and I do have a weird way of understanding each other and when I pointed out the towing line, he got the idea. Attached it to Meta and the guys through the car over the cliff. Ended the fight.
Which is when the bleeding out won over consciousness.
About thirty minutes. Next time I came to, Doc had me half stuffed with biofoam and said he was gonna try to help, especially with the Healing Unit working overtime to keep me stable.
I told him to not try anymore.
I remember Caboose pleading with Tucker. At this point, I had never actually met Tucker. When I met the rest, he had been on a mission with his son. So, all he knew of me was the psychopath trying to kill his friends.
When I next woke up, it'd been about three hours and very much alive and very much hating it.
Tucker was then shoving Epsilon's armor at me and telling me to pretend to be Church. I was pretty out of it and Caboose is...very strong. I genuinely would not be surprised if he punched you in the face and it'd do some actual damage strong. Didn't really need to do anything with him getting the armor on me.
Eventually I figured out the plan was for me to pretend to be Church when the UNSC arrived, who was officially registered as part of Blue Team, but was now in the capture unit with Tex to try and make up all he did to her, so they were short a member, and we had something that could pretend to be a dead body.
They were going to fake my death.
And as far as I can tell, its because Caboose decided I was going to be his new friend and begged like asking someone's parents for a puppy until the others relented.
Fucking games are cheaters with their instant kills and ability neutralization. Which honestly does make me wonder if my cockroach tendencies was actually some kind of secret superpower. And the one time I did die outside of that, I get kidnapped to earn another life.
Maybe there was Forerunner bullshit, they did all sorts of wild things and they did influence human evolution supposedly.

For whatever it's worth, I'm glad you didn't die.
